a modern, chic baby shower & picking a theme | styleberryPARTY Pt. 1

I like parties. but I LOVE planning them. I spent plenty of time in college pondering a career in event planning & I am certain that I would have loved it. BUT…life went in a different direction. So now, I get to plan parties for special people instead. People I love. & that makes me happy.

Planning a party is a lot of work. It can simple or detailed, but the most important thing you can do is choose a theme & plan everything to compliment it. Now by theme, I am not talking about Mickey Mouse or Care Bears (gag me), I am talking about a color scheme & the feelings you want your party guests to have when they are at your event. Do you want it formal or casual? Modern or traditional? Any party has a “feel” and conveying that feeling really is the fun part. & I think that starts with an inspiration board & the invitation.

My big baby shower was so much fun. (& so was my little one!) I began to think about Tori’s baby shower as soon as she told me she was pregnant in hopes that I could throw her something special, like my dear friends threw me. I hopped on my pinterest & started collecting “things” that inspired me. Her favorite colors (that she is also using for her baby girl’s nursery) are turquoise & hot pink, so I thought the shower should be done in those colors. Forget the plates that say baby. Forget the pacifiers & baby bottles. I wanted a “sweet” party for a modern mama with a sweet tooth. & that is what she got. All my ideas came from my “ohbaby” board:

I LOVED one of the invitations that I found & just knew that I could do something similar in Photoshop, so I played graphic designer & made her some custom invitations. She is pretty traditional, so I wanted the invitation to be formal in text, but modern in feel:

Everything was printed by WHCC on linen paper. I also designed some custom thank you notes for her (since her guest list was 80 people long & oof, she needed something pretty!)

& that pretty much set the tone. I pulled the theme: “pink, turquoise, stripe, polka dot, simple, sweet & modern” together with nothing but those words in my head & that board as inspiration. Here’s just a peek at what’s to come in this fun series about party planning!!

next up: candied pecans & my “get skinny salad” :D
