OOF. Halloween is a LOT of work. Fun work. But a LOT of work.

One of the reasons we chose caroline’e preschool is because of their extracurricular activities. Each month we have a home project as well as a school event to help out with. The Halloween event involves little “trick or treat houses” that are set up during the evening fall fest. Parents take boxes home & decorate them, and then the teachers each stand by one and give out candy, with the kids playing in the houses to make it extra fun. They are all different & so cute! I wasn’t sure if I could find the time to make one but the “calling all creative parents…” sign left me feeling guilty so I took one home.

It’s actually a LazyBoy Recliner box (call any store that carries them! I bet they will give you one for free!), that I painted and mod podged and glittered up. caroline picked the little mermaid theme, and we went with it. She LOVES the thing and I hope it is a hit at school, too! My goal was to spend ZERO dollars and use only supplies that I had around the house to make it. The base coat was two reject colors from my armoire, just two tester tubs from Lowe’s. Then I dug out my old art supplies that I still had from college and made decent use of my art minor. Ha. I used mod podge to apply tissue paper to break up the turquoise and then just free handed everything else. I mod podged some more at the end (some of it isn’t dry in the pictures above) and added a bunch of glitter that we had laying around. It’d be a really fun playroom project, even one the kids could do if you let them have at it with paint! :) So fun! & (the best part) FREE!!

Hi! Hello! I am Shawna, the founder of Styleberry Blog. This creative corner of the internet has become a learning haven for moms and creatives, offering a warm and encouraging nudge to those who wish to be better and do better, but often don't know where to start. From Decorating to DIY to Diapers and Paleo-ish Dishes, I strive to make the complicated simple and empower women to take action beyond their personal comfort zone. I subscribe to the Shine Theory & so strongly believe that we shine when the women around us shine and mutual support—lifting up instead of tearing down--will always be the culture here. Are you in? I hope so! Beyond the computer, I run Styleberry Creative where I work with clients to create low fuss, high function spaces that are pretty and practical in San Antonio, Texas and beyond. I LOVE making a house a home. My own studs out renovation is now complete and I am now back to working with clients. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to work together! I hope you’ll join me on this fun new adventure! Xo.
