so I have an idea… | Loft Makeover

These words never quite get the response I want them to in my house. See, I say them with great enthusiasm and excitement. My husband reacts with an eye-roll and a prompt “how much is this going to cost” attitude. Just once it might be fun if he jumped up & down and said ‘YES LET’S GO GET PAINT RIGHT NOW!’ But, I get it. I have ideas that never stop. Lord knows one trip to the Pottery Barn Outlet could easily blow our monthly income. Especially since it sits next to a Restoration Hardware Outlet. And don’t forget the Crate & Barrel Outlet right across the parking lot. But it’s fun to brainstorm, right??!?

One of the things I love to do is challenge myself to make a beautiful room using as little money as possible, yet make it look expensive. I gave up my job making the big bucks, so I have had to learn to start stretching the dollars. The truth is, I love the challenge. It would be kind of boring to walk into a store and be able to afford everything you want. Plus, then your home would look like a catalog. Pretty blah. Time to get creative!

Any room I decorate in my home spends months bouncing around my head. It’s walls get a different color every day of the week. Then eventually I make a decision. I always carry swatches in my bag, with key fabrics & colors, so I can constantly hunt for just the right pieces at just the right price. As more time passes, my taste continues to change and I am beginning to bring more fun & color into my home. I have been planning our loft-turned-playroom in my head for a year now, and finally have some starting pieces. I have very grand plans for this room…and I cannot wait to introduce an energizing, bright color palette here. It will have a giant chalkboard wall, that will feature a unique way to showcase important family photographs. I have always wanted a lime green room…so I will finally have that. It will be a place for all the bright toys to look at home. Kids need a place to grow, be inspired and learn. It can be pretty too. Boy, I have come a long way from my old matchy matchy self. More to come as the project gets underway, but here’s a peek at the palette!

Hi! Hello! I am Shawna, the founder of Styleberry Blog. This creative corner of the internet has become a learning haven for moms and creatives, offering a warm and encouraging nudge to those who wish to be better and do better, but often don't know where to start. From Decorating to DIY to Diapers and Paleo-ish Dishes, I strive to make the complicated simple and empower women to take action beyond their personal comfort zone. I subscribe to the Shine Theory & so strongly believe that we shine when the women around us shine and mutual support—lifting up instead of tearing down--will always be the culture here. Are you in? I hope so! Beyond the computer, I run Styleberry Creative where I work with clients to create low fuss, high function spaces that are pretty and practical in San Antonio, Texas and beyond. I LOVE making a house a home. My own studs out renovation is now complete and I am now back to working with clients. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to work together! I hope you’ll join me on this fun new adventure! Xo.
