the kids department? | Style Tip

I am going to start a bit of a series on how to be fashionable on a budget. Heather recently asked me to share some of the tricks I use to shop smart & stay fabulous. That’s just what I am going to do. I was raised by a bargain shopper & am certainly one myself. However, I have really expensive taste. I have discussed my love for fancy things here before, but I find it extraordinarily fun to find expensive things at less expensive prices. So here it begins!

I am a small girl. I have got small hands, a small head & small feet. Emphasis on the small feet. This first tip might not apply to all of you, but if you are pretty average in the shoe size department, listen up! Have you ever shopped in the kids department for shoes? Kids & teens these days must have bigger feet than ever, because I am constantly finding my size in the kids section, with prices that are a fraction of the adult price. I first discovered this over the winter when I was shopping for a new pair of UGGS. That’s right, you don’t want to miss this.

Did you know that the UGGS Classic Tall Kids largest size, a Kids 6, is equivalent to a Womens 8? YUP! I am a size 6.5 and I wear the UGGS kids size 5. It’s a little big. If you look at the prices of the adult shoe vs. the kids shoe there is a difference of $40, but they are EXACTLY the same. Surprised? I was! The kids UGGS usually go on sale quicker too, as mom & dad often flinch at buying expensive shoes for rapidly growing feet. As you guessed it–this is not just an UGGS thing.

Recently the Marshalls up the street began carrying all kinds of designer brands in the kids section–Michael Kors & Stuart Weitzman to name a couple.  See those boots on the iconic blue box? Kids size 5. & how fab are those going to look with a pair of skinny jeans?!? Best of all, the price tag: $29.99. Those of you shoe gals know that SW’s often cost well over $200. My first pair was a black snakeskin stiletto…I can tell you they did not cost me $29. Deals on these amazing brands can be had! This is not my first kid shoe find, and will not be my last! I have a pair of kids Merrells, and there were some great flip flop finds over the summer. The shoes I wore for this shoot were kids too!

So, if you are looking for a steal & have feet size 8 or under…start looking outside the adult shoe department!

& forgive the fogged lens you see above…IMPOSSIBLE to take a picture outside right now with the sky high humidity. I bet it would have been pretty amusing to watch me, as fast as I possibly could: open the back door, compose, focus, snap snap snap. HA!
