Despite my jovial nature, I do have a very serious, private side. I am a thinker. I like to observe. I am most definitely an introvert, but not at all shy. I like to be a wallflower and yet I enjoy being involved too. Such is life as a Gemini. I like to think I have the best of both worlds, as I really do enjoy the quiet but absolutely love an evening out with the girls. All in moderation. I am very conscious of the social traits I am passing on to my daughter. & every day she seems to be more & more like her dad. She does her own thing. & so do I. But how do we do this constructively? As much as I like a lot of the way I am, there is some I don’t like. & being a mom has certainly made me think. It has made me uncomfortable in many ways, but not so uncomfortable that I stop reflecting. & growing. & figuring out what is right.

I forced myself to throw my 50mm f/1.4 lens on my camera when I took caroline out into the bluebonnets this week. Then, I forced myself to leave it on. I know it is capable of amazing things…but what it really provides me is a nice break for my wrist–that 24-70 is HEAVY! This little guy is perfect for portraits. So that is what it did this week.

I can never get enough of the beautiful reflective light in my bathroom. It’s my favorite place in the house during naptime. I had just put caroline down & grabbed my little camera. I am just as much a part of this project as caroline is…so I thought it was time for a self portrait. Me. In the bathtub. Balancing my camera on the faucet & using my much-too-small hands to try & back focus then roll my thumb to hit the shutter. But…this is me. As usual. Slept on hair. A touch of blush. & my freckles. Can’t be bothered with makeup or lipstick most days. This is it. As good as it gets on days as just a mom. I sometimes wonder how I spent the first 25 years of my life as a blonde…red is just so “me” these days.

Hi! Hello! I am Shawna, the founder of Styleberry Blog. This creative corner of the internet has become a learning haven for moms and creatives, offering a warm and encouraging nudge to those who wish to be better and do better, but often don't know where to start. From Decorating to DIY to Diapers and Paleo-ish Dishes, I strive to make the complicated simple and empower women to take action beyond their personal comfort zone. I subscribe to the Shine Theory & so strongly believe that we shine when the women around us shine and mutual support—lifting up instead of tearing down--will always be the culture here. Are you in? I hope so! Beyond the computer, I run Styleberry Creative where I work with clients to create low fuss, high function spaces that are pretty and practical in San Antonio, Texas and beyond. I LOVE making a house a home. My own studs out renovation is now complete and I am now back to working with clients. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to work together! I hope you’ll join me on this fun new adventure! Xo.
