The art of motion | San Antonio Baby Photographer

I spent a good part of my life (mostly my college years) wishing I lived somewhere else. Anywhere else. Colorado, specifically. I was so obsessed with my long distance love life that I neglected to appreciate the beauty of my surroundings. Now that I live in a place where the beauty must be actively searched for, I love where I grew up even more. It is just breathtakingly beautiful. When I go back to visit, I get to enjoy the abundant trees, flowers and art that makes my childhood home so special.

I grew up in the Bay Area. In the middle of everything. We were an hour from the city (San Francisco). A half hour from the colorful streets of Berkeley. A couple hours from Monterey & Carmel. A couple hours from Lake Tahoe. Several from Yosemite. I had so much at my fingertips as a kid. The experiences I had visiting the sea lions at the wharf, or the tide pools by the bay, the aquarium on the coast, the snow in the mountains and the stunning scenery that was our yearly camping trip to Yosemite was not as appreciated then as it is now. I can only hope that I can get my family out there to have some of these enriching experiences as we grow.

Central Park. We fell in love here as teenagers. Seriously. This park is where it all began. I met my husband when we were 15. We have been exclusive ever since. He even proposed here. So for many reasons…I love this park. It is just dripping in memories around every bend.

I was so excited when I found out a dear friend of my Brother-in-law’s was designing a piece of art for this very park. Dale officiated my BIL&SIL’s wedding. They have several of his pieces at their home. His large scale metal work is amazing. The Dale Rogers Studio is also well known for The Big Dog Show. After scheduling this trip west, I contemplated not dragging my heavy camera across the country…but I knew I really wanted to go check out the latest addition to Central Park. I knew my brother handles a camera well, so I thought I would enlist him for some pictures of Caroline & I. He did an amazing job last time. But last time she didn’t really move.

It was a challenge. Combine that with my genius wardrobe selection & it was a bit of a bust. Literally. Note to busty gals: Wear something that covers your cleavage if you are going to get family pictures taken! It was not so pretty. I did, however, get some cute ones of the little miss in this busy stage. Anything I am in, my brother took. All other images were shot by me. ;)

The smirk this girl’s got…sheesh.

So close to first steps!

I love the outtakes from this shoot almost as much as the “good shots” because they are SO representative of the stage we are in. This is my brother putting her where I wanted her to start so I could get the two shots above. Good lordy. This girl was fast. Even in soggy grass! Sure was fun.

& I have so much more to talk about. Traveling was really just a breeze. I was so worried for nothing. There were some things I want to share though…the ERGO, Flip Diapers, the ZoLi, my love for Southwest…& more. Lots to come. ;) Until then, this was our departing view! A nice clear day over the Golden Gate!

Hi! Hello! I am Shawna, the founder of Styleberry Blog. This creative corner of the internet has become a learning haven for moms and creatives, offering a warm and encouraging nudge to those who wish to be better and do better, but often don't know where to start. From Decorating to DIY to Diapers and Paleo-ish Dishes, I strive to make the complicated simple and empower women to take action beyond their personal comfort zone. I subscribe to the Shine Theory & so strongly believe that we shine when the women around us shine and mutual support—lifting up instead of tearing down--will always be the culture here. Are you in? I hope so! Beyond the computer, I run Styleberry Creative where I work with clients to create low fuss, high function spaces that are pretty and practical in San Antonio, Texas and beyond. I LOVE making a house a home. My own studs out renovation is now complete and I am now back to working with clients. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to work together!
