One of the things I enjoy most about this phase of life is being able to watch my friends become mothers. There is such a visible shift that takes place when we assume this new role and I just can’t get enough. I love it. I love watching my friends soften as they snuggle their new little bundle of delicious baby. I love it as they let go and re-prioritize. I love watching the moments of clarity emerge through the new mommy fog. It’s such a beautiful thing. It brings tears to my eyes.
I feel like I have been given this gift of photography so I can bestow it on others. You all know I am on hiatus from shooting professionally, but every so often, a newborn just captures my heart & I have to get out my camera. This day was no exception. Meet the adorable Vivienne.
I like to think we communicated before she ever arrived, as her mama told me she’d kick around me quite often. She also broke my record of 0% success in guessing genders. She was a surprise & as soon as her mama ran through her list of baby names I just knew she was a Viv. I don’t know why. But I just did. & for once, I can say I was right! :)
She reminded me so much of my caroline. Awake & alert right from the start. Dark hair & dark skin with wide eyes. & I couldn’t help but grab my camera from the other room.
I am loving your energy in your new role, Mama C. You are a natural.
& this quote made me think of you–you’ll know why. Especially in a few weeks. ;) Thanks for sharing your beautiful baby with us!
Soak in every second. It goes way too fast.
