It’s amazing what a couple of days with six hour stretches of sleep can do. The old me returned, complete with a little quiet time in the kitchen after the kiddies went to sleep. A rare occurrence, since lately I’ve been jumping into bed as soon as they they do. I was chopping tomatoes & enjoying the silence the day before the 4th of July and this idea popped in my head. I LOVE hand print projects. (like this one and this one) It’s one of the things I can’t get enough of, because it’s something I can’t ever recreate. It freezes a moment in time–tiny fingers & itty bitty toes. I love using them as art. Especially for holidays.
So using some burlap left over from a Christmas project, and some craft paint, my babies and I made this. I realize that I am a day late on this, but I know many of you are military mamas, and well, the flag just means something different to us. I think it’d make an excellent addition in a care package for deployed daddies. :) So instead of waiting until next year to publish, I’m adding it today. Even though it’s late. That’s just the story of my life lately.
I spritzed the burlap with water to get the creases out, and let it dry before using any paint. Adding Everett’s hand prints was a two person job, so it is not pictured. (sad!) I hot glued a dowel rod (under a dollar at Lowe’s) to the top of the flag (cutting it to size using a shrub trimmer because I didn’t want to drag out the hand saw) & sat it on top of a couple of little command hooks stuck to the door. Viola! Keepsake art. :)
I just know I’ll treasure this for years to come!
Happy Belated 4th from me & my firecrackers!
