Let’s be honest….is this not a dog toy disguised as the most expensive toy a baby has to have?!

I refused to buy it with the last babe, but this time around I am desperate for attention keepers. & this dumb toy keeps him happy longer than anything else.

& it’s not my boob.

win win.

Sophie La Giraffe. I’ll keep you.

But I won’t tell my husband how much you cost.

  • Whitney - I like it. We were similarly anti-Sophie until we went to a friends’ house and our then 5-month-old couldn’t keep her hands off Sophie, so I caved. She just turned 2 and will still bring Sophie out to play.ReplyCancel

  • Lisa - Ha!! As I opened these as shower gifts I affectionately referred to them as ‘chew toys’! They are ABSOLUTELY glorified dog toys!ReplyCancel

  • Cristin - I so agree! I didn’t buy it the first time for the same reason! and this time a friend bought it as a gift…I like non boob toys too!ReplyCancel

  • Meghan - And that my friend are the two most important qualities in a toy. :)ReplyCancel

  • Amy - We just bought a Sophie a few weeks ago. My little guy just turned 4 months, he won’t take a pacifier, and he wants to chew and suck on everything. I’ll admit I was kinda excited to buy a Sophie mostly because I heard it was so awesome. I had no idea the thing squeaks. I actually think that part of it is so annoying. My first thought was that it is just like a dog toy. My dogs go crazy when we squeak Sophie they totally think it is for them. My guy still can’t hold it very well so I’m hoping that comes soon.ReplyCancel

  • Brooke - Wrap a toy keeper around that puppy! It’s tragic when you lose it in Trader Joes, go back for it 5 minutes later, and it’s gone! Cuz goodness knows I’m not going to pay that price for a toy that’s not a sleep aid twice!ReplyCancel

  • Anna - Couldn’t agree more! And I absolutely LOVE that quilt :-)ReplyCancel

  • Kelley T - We love Sophie! She’s totally worth it ReplyCancel

  • Katie - we love sophie at our house! Thankfully we got a second one as a baby gift so there was no issue when the little babe was born!ReplyCancel

  • Shannon - Would love to know where that onsie is from, adorable! We had to get Sophie too, so worth it…ReplyCancel

  • mindy t - Sophie the giraffe has managed to be loved by all three of my children. Most of ger spot have worn off now. I don’t know what it is about it but they just love this thing.ReplyCancel

  • Nicole - I totally agree about Sophie! I almost died with I saw the almost $20 price tag, but man does my little gal looovve Sophie!ReplyCancel

  • Kirsten - Beware, I think there have been quite a few recalls on this pricey toy.ReplyCancel

  • Kassi H. - I fought Sophie… And I fought her hard. And then I got one out of desperateness for my youngest, and she was a loved little giraffe.ReplyCancel

  • Miss M! - Dog toy! LOL! I didn’t think of it that way, but you are totally right! I didn’t buy Sophie for my first for the same reason – $20 for a rubber giraffe? Crazy talk! But with the second, I found myself buying less, and Sophie has SO many good reviews I figured, what the heck? We’ll see if my girl loves it as much as everyone else seems to love it.ReplyCancel

  • Colette - Hi! Love your blog and love your Project 52 posts! I just decided to jump in on the fun, (I know I’m late at halfway through the year!), and I’d love to be added to your links! Candidly, Colette at

  • arod - I would love to get my hands on a quilt like yours for my little man. Do you have a vendor you can recommend?ReplyCancel

    • -shawna- - I picked all the fabrics myself, but I had the etsy seller Past Traditions quilt it. :)ReplyCancel

  • Haley Koning - ha ha avery didn’t have one and myla received two…sophie is her favorite and quite frankly, it keeps her entertained forever! i love it!ReplyCancel

  • Shanon - Sophie is a godsend. It’s totally an overpriced dog toy… but I would have paid $200 for the darn thing, because it hardly left my son’s side for a good year. The spots are all but worn off, and it’s one of the things going in the baby shadow box I’m making for him (along with his going home from the hospital onesie, hospital bracelets, a favorite cloth diaper, etc.).

Definitely getting one for the new baby! No hesitation this time.ReplyCancel
