FIFTY TWO. No way. How has it already been a YEAR?! My goodness. I can hardly believe it. I have to say…of all of the projects that I have done this last year (and wow, there have been a lot of them!) this might be my favorite. What a way to chronicle a year. Each week I tried as best I could to take exactly what I was feeling and turn it into an image. Or take an image and turn it into a way to share how life was treating us. I cannot wait to make this into a coffee table book. Thank goodness my parents are coming into town to give me some help so I can get my year end photo books done this week! :)

So…now what? Is it over?? Well. I’ve decided the answer is no. I’m going to do another Project 52. This little series has been something that I’ve enjoyed doing so much that Fridays just wouldn’t seem right without it. But it won’t be the same. This year’s project was for ME. Next year’s project will be for my BABIES. Plural. How blessed am I to be able to say that? In February our family will be complete. & I don’t plan to put my camera down. I have no clue what time will be left to spend here on this blog but I will guarantee one thing: Project 52 will continue to exist. For my babies.

I have a new theme. A new story to tell. And a whole new person to capture–all while I watch another little person assume a brand new role. What a year this is shaping up to be. :)

& I’m starting fresh with reciprocal linking–want to join me next year? Here’s what we’ll do: Next Friday when I post my 2012 Project 52:1, I’ll need you to comment with a link to your blog. As long as you keep posting your Project 52 weekly, and linking me back, I’ll keep you on the blog roll on the bottom. :) It’s that easy. We’ll hold each other accountable. I encourage you to pick a theme, story or challenge that inspires you & is unique to you. You don’t have to be a photographer. If you are and are looking for a photographic challenge, here are some ideas: Project52.org, mcp actions, or one of my favorites–sweet Annie’s Paint the Moon–Let’s do 52. Use this to grow, document, & capture life as we live it. Let go of judgment & insecurity. Do it for YOU. We all have a special story to tell.

& question–do you like seeing the metadata under each picture? Do you find it useful/helpful? I’ll continue to add it if you feel strongly about it. If not–just pictures & words. & FYI–I recommend using blurb to print your books at the end of the year! :) I’m going to be making another couple of them here in a few days. Here’s my family album from last year if you want to take a peek.

Thank you for being a part of the styleberry community this year. I’ve enjoyed the chit chat & sharing of ideas so much. Happy New Year!!

  • Stef, UK - Hi Shawna,
I’ve been reading your blog since I had my son 3 months ago. I found it when googling articles on losing baby weight and since then have gone back and read lots more of your posts. I even made him a no sew tutu! I’m sure he’ll thank me when I’m older…
You have been really inspirational to me and have made me realise that being a Mum isn’t an excuse to sit watching day time TV and I have tried to get the most out of every day. I have started my own little blog and maybe I’ll even do a project 52 this year.
Thanks for all your hard work to inform and inspire Mums like me.

  • Stef, UK - Hi Shawna,

I began reading your blog about 3 months ago after I had my first baby boy. I found it when searching for articles on losing baby weight and have since gone back and read lots of your other posts. I have found it incredibly inspiring and you have reminded me that being a stay at home Mum isn’t an excuse to sit at home watching day time TV and I try to make the most of each day. I even made him a no sew tutu – I’m sure he’ll kill me for it when he’s older!
Thank you so much for all your hard work to inform and inspire new Mums. I have started my own little blog to keep as a diary of what I get up to and maybe I’ll even do a project 52 next year.
    Best wishes,

  • Kelly B. - Awesome post, Shawna! It’s bittersweet to see this year’s P52 coming to an end, but I’m SO glad you’re continuing it for next year! Happy New Year to you and your sweet family….much love from me and mine! :-)ReplyCancel

  • Yashika Dooley - I love your blog and your tweets and your pinterest boards and your facebook page! Congratulations on all your accomplishments this year- the blog, the stylebaby log, the photography, inspiring us all on a daily basis and all while being a great mom (with a little one on the way) and military wife (truly a unique challenge unto itself – I thank you for the sacrifice of giving of your time, family and husband for our country) – I don’t know how you do it. Never would I have thought having you as my newborn photographer would change my life so profoundly. I follow you all the time, but never comment or thank you as much as I should. Because of you I have cloth diapered, made baby food, used pinterest and evernote, started taking more photos of the family, the list goes on and on. Now I am thinking of the project52. But gotta start a blog first :) – Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you do. Your honesty and humility, your achievements and failures keep me inspired to try harder and love the joy in this crazy journey of being a wife, mother and working woman! Wishing you blessings, love and happiness in the year ahead. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next….ReplyCancel

  • Shannon - I think I’m going to join you in the project 52. I just have to come up with a theme… I love reading your blog! And yes, I want you to keep the metadata! Happy New Year!!ReplyCancel

  • Meghan - Yes, Metadata is helpful! You’ve inspired me into a project 52 for next year too. It’s going to serve 2 purposes; I’m doing it on the theme of “Growing up is…” along the lines of your “Motherhood is” and going to use my kiddos as the subjects to document them this year. With Haley turning 5 this year (F.I.V.E. that’s a whole hand), I’m realizing that time is going by far too quickly and I need to slow it down. And second, more for me will be a two fold benefit: blog more often (since it’s been… ohhh… more than a year!), and really improve my photography.ReplyCancel

  • Nicole - I have enjoyed your Project 52 this year and look forward to next years as well!! You are very inspiring!! Thank you for all you do here on your blog!! I have learned much!! And I do like the megadata-please keep it. :)ReplyCancel

  • kandice - i already decided a few months ago that i would join you on this year’s project 52. i can’t wait! i started a whole new blog (we’re going through a lot of changes.. and a clean start seemed fitting!) & this project will be beautiful there. :) yay!ReplyCancel

  • Julie Meier - Shawna,

Thanks for sharing, and taking the time to put yourself out there!! Love the project, and I have so enjoyed watching it happen the past 6 months (that’s when I found your site!)

You have inspired me! I was already set to do a frame a day with a focus on the little moments that we take for granted in the chaos. This project will be focused on my two little guys. I have decided to do a Project 52 with a “Love is” theme – my husband and I will be married for 10 years in May, and I want to celebrate our relationship!

Thanks again for sharing! Can’t wait to see your new theme, and story unfold!!ReplyCancel

  • Aja - Ok, I definitely want to do Project 52 in 2012! I love the way you’ve done yours and have so enjoyed each week’s post! I just have to come up with a theme.. Ack, guess I better get on the ball with that! :) Thanks so much for the inspiration.ReplyCancel

  • Emily - Hi, Shawna! I loved following your motherhood journey this year! I successfully completed my Project 52 last year, documenting developmental milestones of my son. This year I’m doing a new theme about the quirks of little boys. I already posted my first picture here: http://somuchformyplans.blogspot.com/2012/01/project-521all-about-boys.html and I’ve got you linked up! Thanks again for all the inspiration!!ReplyCancel

  • Nicole - Just wanted to pop on and say I have loved your Project 52! While I faltered a little this year… a move from Amarillo to FTW, buying an older home that needed renovations and having the movers pack my camera battery charger… Im still here! I have given things a lot of thought, and want to make photography a priority… so, I plan to stick around if you’ll still have me. :-)ReplyCancel

  • Abbi Z. Meadows - Can’t wait to see your new theme!!

Emily and I must think alike! :) Having grown up with two sisters and NO brothers, having a son and learning about what boys are like is a whole new world for me! So…my Project 52 will be about my little boy and his adventures, characteristics (good, bad, and ugly) and milestones as we go from 18 months to 2-and-a-half. I don’t have a fancy camera…just my point-and-shoot PowerShot, but I’m hoping to learn a thing or two about photography this year on top of catching some great day-in-the-life shots of Beau. :)

If all goes well tomorrow, I will get my first post written and scheduled to post on Friday. I’ll come back with the link then!ReplyCancel

  • April McNair - Hey! So excited about tomorrow. I’m in with Project 52. Thank you soooo much for all you do. I’ve never told you that and I’ve been a follower for about 6 months now. sorry! I plan to be more active now BUT you have inspired me to do so much. Just don’t laugh at my pictures during this project-hahaha. Unless the kids look cute or something :)ReplyCancel
