Back when I was a babysitter I looked at the “routine” as a job. I mean, who could possibly enjoy the “work” like changing a dirty diaper? So mundane. So boring. What I wasn’t then, that I am now, is a mother. As my due date drew near, I increasingly feared the middle of the night feedings. What I didn’t know is that they would be some of my favorite memories with my daughter. Just the two of us in the glowy light. She was always so smiley and talked herself back to sleep right away. Maybe it was because I was under the influence of some serious oxytocin, but I loved them. Diaper changes too. She cooed and talked and giggled and smiled. It was all so much joy. Joy in the ordinary.
Right now, I have three very favorite times of the day. I look forward to each & every one. #1- the wake up. After asking for daddy & naming everyone in her crib entourage, she points to the tippy top of her head requesting her “tig tags” until we make our way to the bathroom to put them in. #2- meal clean up. I am crazy about the floor & always wipe it down while on my hands & knees. Without fail, she comes over, lifts the back of my shirt & rubs my lower back. :):):) #3-lotion time. After she helps me rub her belly, she grabs my elbow, hugs & then kisses it. Over & over.
Oh, sweet caroline. We picked the perfect name.
