What scares me most…

Oh my. Life is-a-changing! What most people don’t realize about photography is that only about 20% of it is actually taking pictures. Okay maybe 10%. Behind the scenes you have to truly be a small business owner, and that is a LOT of work! So while I have a shoot a week booked for the next couple of weeks, I am also learning about web design, search engine optimization, online proofing, photoshop editing (umm…this could be a years work of learning on its own!), backup schematics, state tax laws, how to invoice, business banking & bookkeeping, online credit card merchants, LLC & DBA laws, trademarking, scheduling, pricing, printing & color correction…and trying to figure out how I am going to do this & be a mama at the same time. Not to mention exercising, managing & maintaining a household and growing a little one, which let me tell you, is hard work! Whew!

So, the point of this post: how do we stay fabulous when we work, multitask and surely have days filled with far less than glamorous duties? I am no expert. All I can say is that I try. Do you have secrets? Please share!

My goal so far with this child is to address my biggest fear about having a child: the STUFF. I kid you not, all that baby junk just freaks a type A, organization maniac out. Thus, I have taken it upon myself to be very careful & deliberate about the things I am choosing to bring into my home. Now dont get me wrong, there will be a play area for the wild crap my child is sure to acquire over the years, but for the most part I am making sure to choose things that match my general surroundings. If I have to look at it every day, it’s going to coordinate. Not so much matchy matchy, because that it not my style(…I wouldn’t dream of buying an entire set of anything…bedding, furniture, etc…no thank you!) but at least go together. And if it is going to be in my house, it better match that too. So, meet my travel system so far! My car seat, which coordinates with my stroller, which goes with my diaper bag, which accentuates my nursing cover…all of which pretty much will fit right in with my decor. And yes, the pack & play, high chair & swing all match too. Maybe, just maybe I will achieve the status of chic mama. Time will tell! chic-mama-graphic

Hi! Hello! I am Shawna, the founder of Styleberry Blog. This creative corner of the internet has become a learning haven for moms and creatives, offering a warm and encouraging nudge to those who wish to be better and do better, but often don't know where to start. From Decorating to DIY to Diapers and Paleo-ish Dishes, I strive to make the complicated simple and empower women to take action beyond their personal comfort zone. I subscribe to the Shine Theory & so strongly believe that we shine when the women around us shine and mutual support—lifting up instead of tearing down--will always be the culture here. Are you in? I hope so! Beyond the computer, I run Styleberry Creative where I work with clients to create low fuss, high function spaces that are pretty and practical in San Antonio, Texas and beyond. I LOVE making a house a home. My own studs out renovation is now complete and I am now back to working with clients. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to work together! I hope you’ll join me on this fun new adventure! Xo.
