Project 52 | TWENTY NINE

I’m going to say what I said on instagram…because it’s the truth:

This week has been good, despite nothing more than four consecutive hours of sleep. I’ve read & read and accepted my Everett the way he is & mothered him through a new set of eyes. He’s responded so well. He is happier & so am I. High Needs babies are special. And exhausting. But I’m choosing to see him for who he is and changing to provide him what he needs, not what I think he should need.

Ahhh. Here’s to a few less tears.

Cheers.

& the quote that has been the greatest help with my own frustrations this week:

Brandi - Gorgeous. I absolutely love your Project 52 series! My boy was also really high needs when he was smaller. He’s turning 18 months old next week and the difference between now and a year ago is 180˚! So there is hope for a full night’s sleep… eventually :) HUGS!

Jayme - Hi Shawna!

I’ve been following your blog silently for awhile now. I had my first baby a month Everett was born, and I can’t express to you what a joy it was to read your blog in the weeks before my she was born and contemplate what motherhood was all about.

We’re not in the military, but we move often due to my husbands job, and I’d like to use Project 52 as a way to document for her what our life was like in the small town where she was born, because Lord knows she won’t remember it when she is older.

Can I join the project, too? My site is called And Now…

Thanks! And good luck with the little buddy.

Pattyann - I’m glad things are getting better for you. Even though I don’t know you, I have seen your post and been praying for the two of you. I feel like our lives are parallels in many ways, my husband is a resident (pgy-2), we have a daughter (3 in Oct), and a 7 month old boy. I know this time can be struggling but it is also very special, I have early movers and my little man is crawling around and pulling up, so enjoy the baby months because they will be gone before you know it. btw: he looks like an angel in that photo, he is obviously learning to be relaxed!

Hope - I added my project 52 to my blog! I am so excited about it! Thank you so much for not only the idea but for linking my blog to yours! I just started my blog a couple weeks ago and am trying to get connected in the world of Mommy blogging! Email me the link that you want me to attach to my blog!

April - I am on my second too and we’re going through weening from nursing…boy is it soooo much different than the first. Like Caroline, my Jack was like clockwork. Not my second, she nursed ALL the time and now it has been tough. So different than the first.

It is interesting how not only are you teaching Everett how to relax but he’s teaching you too. :)

The are going to teach US more than we can imagine!

Lindsay - Where we you when my little ones were babies!? (now 4 yo and 20 month old) I could have used you to help me though! It is so tough. Both of my girls were high needs and it was (still is) tiring. Although I think I had it better because I never knew what a ‘good’ baby was! ha! I just assumed that all babies were like mine. You mean, not everyone has to rock (only doing the correct sway) and sing for hours on end just to keep her calm? :) Hang in there. You’re an awesome mom. Each day you get a little bit closer to the ‘end’.

Ann - Wow, thank you for this! My 4 month old does not sleep longer than 4 consecutive hours either. He is a happy, healthy, wonderful baby just wants to see his Momma and nurse, ALOT! I’ve read, talked, cried, and now I’m just happy I have a baby and a beautiful family and I will let Lyric be Lyric! It is great to know there are others out there as well. My 3 year old daugher was/is the best sleeper EVER so this is a huge change for us!

Sunray - Shawna…your Everette sounds a lot like my little guy. Thanks for posting the links and talk about your struggle weekly. You help me realize that I’m not the only one. It’s really comforting. :) Big hug!
